Abstract

On the occasion of his inauguration as professor at the State University of Groningen the author has presented a lecture with the aim to convince the society that transport systems provide a tremendously valuable source of interesting and important problems for psychologists and other behavioral scientists, at the level of both theory and application. Behavioral scientists have a broad range of theories and methods that are essential for understanding and improving transport system safety. This is attempted to do by taking the example of driver training.
