Abstract

The theme of this feature issue of Optometry and Vision Science is the emerging research area of vision and driving. From the diverse nature of the papers included in this issue, it is clear that the topic has a much broader focus than that of developing vision standards for driver licensing. It includes, prediction of how visual impairment affects on-road driving performance, the role of visual attention and other visuocognitive factors in driver performance and safety, better understanding of the role of eye and head movements while driving, selfregulation and driving cessation as assessed by selfreport measures, night driving, vehicle design issues, and the development and justification of vision standards for professional workers.
