Abstract

Previous research into the effects of weather and climate on road traffic accidents is reviewed and makes a comparative study of data for Glasgow District during a recent two-year period. Particular emphasis is placed on the precipitation- related impacts by examining personal-injury accidents on a rain day versus non-rain day basis. It is concluded that wet days are associated with higher accident numbers, especially in summer, and the overall increase appears to be in excess of 20 per cent.
