Abstract

In many projects, the specific requirements can be delivered by specifying the use of various standard components. The Queensland Department of Main Roads (Main Roads) has developed and use a suite of standard specifications for the road network components and is in the process of developing standard specifications for the ITS components. The standard specifications typically contain information that has proven necessary/relevant from previous experience, to successfully deliver the component. They are concise and accurate documents that can be reliably included within project contract documents without alteration, and are based on recognized Australian and International standards. But most importantly, they define the standards that are adopted by Main Roads for every project undertaken. This paper describes how Main Roads manages and uses a system of standard specifications to deliver the ITS components of the road network.
