Abstract

HSRI accident data banks: Data stored in HIT Lab computer files has been obtained through the efforts of many individuals who investigate accidents, and complete, analyse and code accident reports. An Emperical analysis of accident data using induced exposure: A control population of traffic accidents - one in which responsibility can definitely be assigned to one driver or vehicle - is used to investigate driver and vehicle age as causative factors. It is concluded that drivers aged 16-24 and 56 plus are overrepresented in the accident population; no conclusion could be drawn about vehicle age or model as causative factors. Injury level by vehicle age: Several variables in highway accidents, such as severity of injury and driver age, are plotted against vehicle size and age.
