Abstract

Hypertension is found in 20% of the dutch population between 30 and 60 years old. It is necessary to prevent these patients being a danger for traffic safety without discriminating against them more than necessary. Drugs to cure hypertension can influence the driving capability. Some drugs are discussed in this article. Other drugs and alcohol influence the effect of drugs on the driving capability. Drivers and doctors should realise this. Stricter rules are to be applied for professional drivers when deciding to let them drive, using drugs. An extensive list of literature - most of it in english - is added to this article.
