Abstract

Meteorological phenomena occurring on highways present obstacles for road maintenance and driving. In particular ice film forming on road surface, snowfall and snow coverage are directly connected with possible traffic accidents so that countermeasures against these obstructions are of particular importance. An information system has been developed to detect, predict and give warning of road icing. The apparatus is described.
