Abstract

The report summarizes the initial work on the project, including a review of the literature, a formalization of the concept of a roadside hazard, and an evaluation of the characteristics of single vehicle accidents. The field investigation procedure is outlined, and the preliminary results of accident site investigations are discussed. The applicability of photologs in evaluating roadside safety is examined. A preliminary structure for roadside hazard identification and correction is presented.
