Abstract

Approximately 140,000 people were injured and 5,211 people were killed in the year 2000 in traffic accidents that involved large trucks. The purpose of the research is to identify and explain unsafe driver behaviours and conditions that are more likely to be present in fatal collisions between large trucks and automobiles than in fatal traffic accidents involving automobiles only. Another purpose is to determine what strategies would be most effective to educate drivers in driving behaviours that would help them to avoid accidents with trucks. (Author/publisher)
