Abstract
One of the main areas of potential fuel savings for trucks and trailer combinations is that of aerodynamics and vehicle drag. The pros and cons of commercial vehicle aerodynamics are discussed in this article. The dimensional restrictions imposed on the biggest trucks were one of the main criteria. With the present restrictions the truck cab comes out like a flat fronted box which is about the worst possible shape for a smooth air-flow around it. Various deflectors have been tried to obtain a rapid air-flow for low drag.
