Abstract

Many Australian local authorities impose restrictions on the use of illuminated advertising signs in the vicinity of traffic routes. Confusion between the advertising signs and the traffic signs are held to be the main reason for this control. Various studies are reported and other evidence is given which indicates that many present controls are far too restrictive.
