Abstract

This paper describes IMAPCAR, a video recognition processor that provides a high-performance-device solution for in-vehicle image recognition applications. By integrating 128 four-way VLIW processing elements with individual local memory, IMAPCAR satisfies the following three requirements; a high computation performance for real-time processing, power efficiency suitable for in-vehicle usage, and programming flexibility to facilitate application development. To fulfil the requirements of real automotive applications, IMAPCAR features improved computational performance, memory system reliability and video data input capability compared with the IMAP-CE prototype LSI. The peak performance reaches 100 GOPS in 8bit operation equivalent, while its power compensation is approximately 2 W. For the covering abstract see E134653.
