Abstract

A study of 325 flights during the initial year of operation showed that 59% of patients were trauma victims, and the majority were young adults involved in motor vehicle accidents. They were critically injured and required immediate organized surgical care. The figures presented here indicate that an air ambulance transporting acutely injured patients will have a major impact on the hospital departments.
