Abstract

In dense urban areas, traffic congestion hinders fast and reliable bus service. Slower bus speeds increase passengers' travel times, divert passengers to less space-efficient modes, and increase the cost of providing bus service. This paper presents a method based on regression analysis for determining the increase in bus running time due to traffic congestion and the resulting increase in operating costs. (A)
