Abstract

Sources and impact of legislation which is currently affecting passenger car design are examined. Problem areas which have been experienced by vehicle manufacturers are indicated and the most likely developments that will take place to enable the passenger cars of the future to meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the legislator are suggested. Two key areas have been analyzed; vehicle design in relation to safety and noise, and the control of exhaust emissions.
