Abstract

In this paper, a general introduction to the greenhouse effect is given, followed by the specific problem of emissions from various modes of transport. It is shown what effects the different types of transport modes have on emissions of pollutants. Then, using France as a case study, an assessment is briefly made of transport derived greenhouse gases. In the second part of the paper, the different options available to combat this pollution, are discussed. Finally an overview of solutions presented, suggests guidelines for European standardization, as well as for transport research policy.
