Impact of transportation systems on mobility of elderly persons in Germany.

Abstract

This chapter aims to identify some basic factors that shape mobility in Germany in general, and among elderly people in particular. Findings are presented from 2 studies conducted in urban and rural areas of East and West Germany on the travel behavior of various groups of older people. Lastly, analysis is provided of the most salient problems facing the elderly, and of implications for problem-solving strategies aimed at meeting their mobility needs.
