Abstract

Rapidly growing congestion in Korea has resulted in unreliable service for its intercity bus passengers. The Ministry of Construction and Transportation of Korea is making an effort to implement ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) in this area by awarding $0.25 million to the Korea Transport Institute for the development of the Express Bus Information System (EBIS) for the intercity express bus system. The system will provide useful and reliable information. The following aspects of the system are discussed: (1) system architecture; (2) passenger survey for establishing information priorities; (3) field test; and (4) system expansion.
