Abstract

The present and future importance of the provision of route information to drivers of road vehicles are discussed. The present "market penetration" of the alternative methods will be discussed, with an examination of how this may vary with changing future travel patterns. This will suggest how the development of route information systems may be used to help control future traffic problems.Discussed is how future technology will bring the ability to provide drivers with up- to- the- minute route information. Descriptions will be given of systems developed by Wootton Jeffreys.
