Abstract

This contribution addresses the problem of low back pain (LBP) induced by driving long distances with classical vehicles equipped with ordinary seats. Following an analysis of the possible major cause of LBP, i.e. strain of the spinal column due to differential motion of the buttocks and trunk, a new improved design of car seat backrest is proposed. Comparative tests and measurements are reported which tend to substantiate the claim to reduced LBP with the new design. (A)
