Abstract

The City of Montreal has commissioned a study to develop a recommended practice for the evaluation of the impact of proposed site developments. The objective of such a practice would be to identify the traffic impact of any type of land development on the roadway, parking and transit systems, to provide a credible basis for estimating transportation improvement requirements due to the development, and to determine the compatibility of the project with existing transportation plans. For the Montreal study, primary attention was devoted to the design and application of site-specific surveys, to obtain information on trip generation and attraction, parking characteristics and delivery trips. This was done for six This was done for six different land-use categories (hotel, office, residential apartment, light industry, shopping centre and multi-use centre) within two sectors of the metropolitan area (central core and core periphery). In total, 28 sites were sampled, through a combination of personal interview and counting procedures.
