Abstract

The paper explores ways in which accidents can be avoided through measures applied to the vehicle such as improved brakes, better handling and stability, and attention to defects in design and maintenance. If an accident does occur, its severity can be reduced through such means as improved car crashworthiness, safety belts (when worn), and heavy vehicle under- run guards.
