Abstract

The 16-page brochure published by the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF) covers many topics relevant to the safety of cyclists. It concludes that the countries with the highest bicycle use and the lowest risks per kilometre cycled have invariably chosen to promote active road safety, rather than passive protection of the individual cyclist through helmet use. The brochure demonstrates to everyone involved in cycle planning, traffic regulation or road safety and to cyclists themselves what really is the most effective approach to safer cycling. Although there are many books and publications on the health and safety of cyclists, this one is the most recent, up-to-date and easily accessible one. (A)
