Abstract

Worksite health promotion programs are one strategy for improving health and fitness and facilitating positive behaviour change associated with risk for major causes of death. Studies that examined the effectiveness of worksite health promotion programs on employee health and fitness have used a wide variety of program components, including opportunities for physical exercise, health screening and counseling, and smoking cessation programs. Few studies have shown the impact of incentives or employee-driven programs on health. Given the difficulty in securing employee participation among employees most at risk, programs designed and implemented by employees may increase participation in worksite health promotion programs. This pilot study examined the impact of participation in an incentive component of an employee-driven health promotion program on behaviours associated with risk for death from disease. (A)
