Abstract

This paper describes some bikeway design trends and practices. It sets out an outline for updating the 1983 Guidelines. These will be expanded with more details and incorporated in the future Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Road Design Manual. Examples are taken mostly from Hamilton-Wentworth because of the author's familiarity with this region. Finally, the paper suggests further work in research and education as well as more involvement by transportation engineers.
