Abstract

Improvement in restraint usage resulting from some element of compulsion is given. The latter can be achieved by one of three approaches 1) legislation, 2) mechanical necessity and 3) automatic restraint deployment. These three approaches are discussed in turn, and in cases (2) and (3), the operation of the system is described, and costs are quoted.
