Abstract

The paper discusses the renewed interest in pedestrianism and some of the elements which militate it. The contradictory psychology of pedestrianism is seen as making a purely engineering approach to improvement difficult of success. While all people walk, most also drive. In place of piecemeal, spot improvements, it is recommended that plans for complete separation be developed for town centers.
