Abstract

A range of advances in using traffic data within a navigation system havebeen made as part of developing Trafficmaster's off-board navigation system Smartnav. Encompassing contributions towards the quality of navigation from both real-time and typical traffic information, issues and solutions are presented based on practical experience and actual results. Constraints due to the need to establish both strategic alternatives and local diversions around traffic incidents are highlighted. Significant benefits are seen in making 'speed categories' applied to roads time-dependent. This enables advantage to be made from Floating Car Data in addition to the historical sensor based data already available. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
