Abstract

This paper discusses the wide range of capabilities and some of the limitations of video image processing for incident detection as Traficon has experienced it over the past 25 years. A basic methodology will be discussedhighlighting the key parameters for implementing a video image processingsystem. Also the do's and the don'ts when implementing an Automatic Incident Detection (AID) system will be highlighted. A detailed case study of Scandinavian highway and tunnel projects (e.g. the Öresund link, Isokyla tunnel, ) will serve as an illustration.
