Abstract

Road safety, overall, is a very broad topic that includes all three elements; the road, the driver, and the vehicle. This presentation focuses on the vehicle and, in particular the patterns of crash injury sustained by vehicle occupants and how those injuries are being addressed by, built- in safety improvements. The development of improved crashworthiness must begin with a detailed study of accident data. The need for such data is discussed and notable sources of data are outlined.
