Abstract

The importance of Information Technologies (IT) and its advantages is becoming one of the most realized subjects in these economical conditions. Transport authorities have to understand and analyze their companies strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Is it possible without an accurate statistical data regarding public transit (PT) usage? Information is essential in every aspect of our lives and businesses. Can automatic fare collection (AFC), automatic vehicle location (AVL) and public information systems (PIS) help us to increase PT usage by providing on time planning, scheduling, passenger information, shorter travel, much more economic faretariffs, intermodal ticketing, passenger safety? This presentation will underline how we can do it via real case studies.
