Abstract

The difficulties encountered in testing and putting into practice different forms of a demand bus system were investigated by a Ford team. Factors such as financial support, legal regulations, labour conditions and especially management support and dedication play a major role. Results obtained with experimental demand bus services in Mansfield and elsewhere are discussed, as well as criteria for evaluation and the costs and benefits obtained.
