Abstract

By intervening between the roll stabilization and the roll moment distribution, active suspension systems open up a considerable amount of improvement for the driving stability and the response behaviour of a vehicle. Due to the nonlinear tire behaviour the lateral forces are influenced by modifying the vertical tire loads. The resulting effects can be proved by measurements but also be clearly perceived by the driver. Therefore the benefits of such a suspension system can be recognized immediately. Theoretical and experimental investigations concerning the influence on the lateral dynamics are presented. Subjective evaluations and objective criteria are used to demonstrate the improvements of the driving behaviour. (A)
