Abstract

The kinematical analysis of displacements of the vertebrae of an in vivo lumbar column during a movement of lateral inflexion allows one: to quantify the behavioural qualities of the spine; to obtain information about the way in which a vertebral column adapts to stresses; to define the concept of a standard column; and to analyse the wear and tear produced by lateral impact on spinal column.
