Abstract

Decrease tyre tread depth will result in reduced fuel consumption in trucks. This effect is evaluated quantitatively for both bias and radial truck tyres using a typical highway truck tyre using a typical highway truck. It is shown that greater improvements can be made for bias tyres than for radials and that in general the practice of manufacturing new tyres with reduced tread depth will lead to improved truck fuel economy.
