A detailed study upon 3.441 fatal accidents, produced in the state roads of Spain during the year 1979 is made. These accidents have been classified in the following four types-pedestrians, collisions between vehicles at and outside intersections and accidents involving only one vehicle (pedestrians excluded). For each one of these types, the influence of different circumstances has been investigated and conclusions are reached about programs and priorities to improve safety, mainly in order to decrease fatal accidents rates on state roads.
