Abstract

The case of a monocular observer moving along a curvilinear path through an environment is considered. It is shown that the following information is optically specified to the observer : (1) the velocity and acceleration of the observer with respect to both direction and magnitude; (2) the distance to stationary surfaces in the environment; and (3) the distances to moving surfaces in the environment in contact with stationary surfaces.
