Abstract

This paper discusses the development of "Infosites" (octagonal buildings erected adjacent to rest areas to house permanent advertising displays for firms catering to Interstate motorists) on opposite sides of Interstate 80 near Iowa City Iowa. They were built in the belief that an information gap would result from federal and state laws controlling billboards along the Interstates. The author concludes in his paper that motorists can get information they need to travel across the state without relying on Info sites, and advertisers can get their message to motorists without Info sites.
