Abstract

Decisions on traffic safety measures are often taken for political rather than technical reasons. The general public are more and more involved in decision making, and information given by mass- media is therefore important. Greater effort must be made to present scientific results free from bias in the press, in order to avoid confusion between technical and political arguments. It is essential to promote communication between practice and the public, as well as between practice and science.
