Abstract

This report discusses briefly the state of knowledge of pedestrian injury in relation to vehicle design. Some epidemiological considerations are mentioned and their pedestrian injuries and their origins are discussed. The influence of vehicle design, bumper, improvement, tyre-road contact, vehicle lighting and the introduction of non-lock braking are mentioned as well as the high pedestrian involvement with taxis and public service vehicles. Recommendations for further research are given.
