Abstract

Vehicle density is, of course, the main factor which determines traffic noise levels in town streets. However, the equivalent sound levels are influenced by a series of secondary parameters such as: vehicle speed, ground cover, percentage heavy vehicles, street width etc. Each of these parameters, taken separately, has a rather poor weight. Nevertheless, if one takes correctly into account the most important of these factors, the agreement between predicted and measured sound levels can be seriously improved.
