Abstract

This paper reports on 3 new approaches and telematics applications that improve the operation of the port, and facilitate its function within the whole supply chain management process. These projects are SPHERE, which established the basis for effective re-engineering of the port organization and processes, especially for small and medium sized ports, within the VS concept as stated above; INTERPORT, dealing with entry/exit control, and electronic container management in ports; and INFOLOG, dealing with telematics applications to effect the integration of the port within the Logistics and overall supply chain management process.
