Abstract

Continuing the work programmed for WP2, under the task 2.1 is Deliverable 2.1c, which contains the relevant results obtained from carrying out an analysis on other available motorcyclist protection system evaluation protocols or tests and a literature review on research carried out in different institutions and universities. D2.1c includes a great amount of information regarding the technological advances in the evaluation of road side barriers. It is worth mentioning that great efforts are being done throughout the research world in order to obtain reliable and correlated simulation tools and techniques that will allow the optimum evaluation of systems without carrying the necessity of extra testing. This deliverable presents some of the most important developments carried out in the field of simulation, crash testing, product design and protocol evaluation. We can find for example, validation of testing procedures that are latterly carried out to simulation programs, which will then provide testing in a shorter time, with greater improvement possibilities and incurring in fractions of what real crash testing would cost. It is also worth mentioning that in the case of simulation and crash testing, two different global configurations are addressed: one with the rider sliding on the floor, which replicates the scenario of a falling motorcycle and one configuration impacting a vertically launched motorcycle with dummy on top. The latter configuration was found during D1.2 to be one accident scenario that had not been accounted for testing but is also very important and should be evaluated. Several universities have established some protocols and have proposed different testing techniques in order to obtain a direct correlation in the crash dynamics of a motorcycle accident. In this case, the bodies look towards eliminating the redundant characteristics but keeping the better ones to obtain a more efficient and stringent testing process. (Author/publisher)
