Abstract

The objective of the 'Innovative concepts for smart road restraint systems to provide greater Safety for vulnerable road users' (Smart RRS) project is to reduce the number of injuries and Deaths caused by road traffic accidents to vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists, cyclists and passengers through the development of a smart road restraint system. Within the WP2 'Review of Standards - Current Science & Technology', the Task 2.1, 'Evaluation of actual roadside motorist protection systems regulations' and task 2.2, 'State of the Art Systems' aim to review the current regulations and most up to date technology respectively. Task 2.3, 'Definition of necessities and requirements for future roadside motorist protection systems' defines the new criteria required to evaluate future systems. From this any new designs will be compared and a judgement will be passed on whether it meets the specified requirements. This deliverable D2.4 represents a summary report of the main findings of WP2. (Author/publisher)
