Training for learner drivers in Germany ranges from road safety education in schools, via driving school training, though to accompanied driving and the first drive undertaken alone. Reliable electronic communication in the form of the internet and mobile telephony lends itself to support both an intensive use and a diverse scope of this learning process. Both these media are intensively used by adolescents and young adults, while parents, teachers and driving instructors are also readily available via these media. Reliable electronic communication as part of training for learner drivers is especially successful when the broad target group public is addressed in as "personal" way as possible and the members of the target group also have the opportunity to enter into a dialogue (participation, interactivity). Web 2.0 provides a wide range of possibilities for this purpose. Social marketing strategies can be adopted to strength the ties of the target groups to traffic safety concerns in the context of training for learner drivers and be applied in internet and mobile telephony social media (social media marketing). Communication science principles and psychological factors relating to reliable communication are explained in the report. An overview of corresponding communication strategies in health promotion is provided, while forms of addressing learner drivers via the internet in Germany as well as relevant offers from GDL countries are presented. In Germany, it is possible to identify deficits, in particular in the treating of the beginner's risk in the contexts of family, school and the first drive undertaken alone as well as the issue of addressing parents in general. A framework concept and specific fields of action for the future use of reliable electronic communication in the training of learner drivers are presented. (Author/publisher)
