Abstract

The Intelligent Rear Light System incorporates a tail light cluster with high luminosity light sources, sensors which monitor environmental conditions and a microprocessor for data processing and light source control. The weather parameters rain, snow, fog, spray and ambient light (day /night) are coupled in an intelligent way with additional environmental parameters such as rear lamp soiling. According to the results of the data processing, the light intensity of every single rear light function is adjusted in brightness according to the situation. An optical laser system provides information about the visibility in the surrounding area and the distance to the following vehicles. A second sensor analyses dirt and ambient light. This ensures an optimum and safe perception of the vehicle by following drivers. For the covering abstract see ITRD E123380.
