Innovative traffic management on M25.

Abstract

The paper describes the design of traffic management for the reconstruction and widening to four lanes of the M25 between Junction 10 at Wisley and Junction 13 at Wraysbury. It covers the design development and the lessons learned during its implementation over 15 months. The paper includes: a brief description of the works; the considerations in the consultant's brief, L G Mouchel and Partners, affecting the design of the traffic management systems; a review of the alternative systems considered; a description of the scheme adopted; and an assessment of the scheme's performance with particular reference to accidents and capacity, lessons learned and guidance for future projects.
