Abstract

As part of their recent mine expansion, Syncrude Canada Ltd. began construction in 1993 for the relocation of Highway 63 near Mildred Lake, Alberta. As a key component of this relocation three (3) separate structures where required to carry Highway 3 over a Heavy Hauler Haul Road and two (2) adjacent conveyors. The requirement to keep the conveyors in operation during construction and cost considerations made the optimum design a precast arch. This paper presents the design standards and procedures for the relocation of Highway 63. (A)
