Abstract

As a University Transportation Center of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Research and Innovative Technology Administration, the Institute for Safe, Quiet, and Durable Highways (SQDH) is developing programs to achieve quiet, safe, durable, and economical highways for automobiles, trucks, and highway-based transit. The SQDH Institute is a joint effort of the Schools of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, with an advisory council that includes 18 representatives from government agencies, industry associations, and companies involved in highway construction, vehicle manufacturing, and tire manufacturing. This article lists the research projects funded and completed by the SQDH Institute, briefly describes a workshop hosted by the SQDH Institute, and describes the facility's tire-pavement test apparatus.
