Abstract

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) works closely with its many partners and stakeholders in highway research and technology (R&T) to develop innovative technologies that save lives, time, and money; to improve its R&T program; and to deploy technology and innovation more effectively. The FHWA serves as convener in bringing the R&T community together, as advocate for innovation, and by leadership in vital national research areas. This article provides examples of how FHWA's outreach and strategic partnerships with local and regional stakeholders are working to improve freight planning, travel demand forecasting, and roadway safety. An insert with this article provides a description of FHWA's Local Technical Assistance Program and regional Tribal Technical Assistance Program.
